The "Josephine" dance shoes are inspired by Josephine Baker, a famous burlesque dancer in the 1920's. Although she was American, she imbued a sense of the exotic with her risque "African" dancing and became one of the wealthiest celebrities in Paris. The printed leather represents her African exoticity and the yellow represents her famous banana skirt dance. The bottoms are also covered in suede to facilitate dancing and keep the Jazz Age alive. |
