The "Scarabs" top is made of a burnout silk rayon and the "Bustle" skirt out of silk wool covered with a printed silk chiffon."Scarabs" is printed with the Scarabs print and consists of three pieces that are cut into the silhouette of a sitting royal from the Book of the Dead and can be seen when laid flat. The "Bustle" skirt, on the other hand, draws from the Victorian bustle and gives it a modern twist. Victorians were fascinated by Egyptian burial rituals and were accustomed to death themselves as the industrial revolution caused crowded and unsanitary cities. This Egyptian aspect is tied in with the Hieroglyphs print, which is both screenprinted and painted by hand. |
